In defense of passionate programming

Mark Dennehy blogs about passion in the context of programming in The case against passion. Took me a while to figure out what he wanted to get at but I think he’s completely mixed up two orthogonal aspects.

  • I can easily replace the word Programming to Business Analysis or Testing.

    While Clinical precision may be required to analyze the problem in hand, solving that problem need not necessarily be without passion.

    Isn't it true for any work that requires logical reasoning, there is great need for Passion!.
  • I would think that energy and soul are absolutely necessary in a lot of scenarios. In this case is that passion that would play the role of energy/soul to bring out the best.
    And yes yourself being a passionate one in the team helps to get the team running a successful marathon.
  • I definitely agree that "Passion is not an antithesis of good programming. Its the fuel for good programming"
